Things To Do And See In Cairns And Surrounds

Cairns Northern Beaches is a destination hard to beat in Queensland if not Australia. When you decide you want a holiday and not just any vacation but one to be remembered, you came to the right place.

Your holiday home, villa or unit is ideally located to explore the region’s outstanding attractions including the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree Rainforests, Skyrail, Kuranda, Tjapukai guided kayaking to nearby reefs, fish the estuaries and/or the reef, snorkel or scuba dive to see the natural beauty of the Great Barrier Reef, Cairns Tropical Zoo, bungee jumping and hot air ballooning golf, tennis white water rafting and Tour boats to the Great Barrier Reef leave right from Palm Cove Jetty.

Golden sandy beaches nestled between two World Heritage sites being tropical rainforest & the magnificent coral of the Great Barrier Reef will live in your memory forever. The rainforest clad mountains rise steeply from the coastal plain.

The best beach destinations are:

  • Palm Cove: Cairns most popular beach destination due to its renowned restaurants and bars, plus tourist attractions including, golf and fishing. The beach itself is idealic with offshore islands and reefs framed by a sandy beach. It also boasts boutiques galleries, fashion shops, a golf course and fabulous jetty fishing.
  • Buchan Point: A private, secluded suburb with spectacular views and small quiet beaches a short walk from your holiday rentals.
  • Clifton Beach: A relatively quiet beach lined with palm trees and offering calm waters and a relaxing atmosphere.
  • Trinity Beach: 5 minutes south of Palm Cove and has many of the attractions of Palm Cove though it is more residential than “touristy”.
  • Yorkeys Knob: 15 minutes south of Palm Cove. Another long picturesque white coral sand beach but with the added advantage of being adjacent to the Half Moon Bay Boat Club with its broad open decks, magnificent views and great food. Yorkeys Knob also has an 18 hole golf course, fishing, and several quality restaurants.

Skyrail is the world’s longest gondola cableway. Spectacular sunrises are to be expected off Palm Cove and Clifton Beach. Many tours are displayed for sale.

Take a scenic coastal drive to the Daintree, Port Douglas or the volcanic lakes or 1,000 year old fig trees of the Atherton Tablelands (Cairns Highlands).

Lesser known but equally as fascinating is the rugged outback country of the Gulf Savannah and the Cooktown-Cape York areas.

Jump out of a plane or simply take a cruise to the islands and outer reefs. However you like your adventures from calm and relaxed to adrenalin pumping excitement, there is enough here to keep you satisfied.

Alternatively you may decide to relax on the beach or spend the day shopping at one of Cairns unique shops. Cairns offers sophisticated shopping centres, fine restaurants and night clubs,Cassino, stunning botanical gardens and art galleries and a Convention Centre.

Cairns is just 20 minutes south of the northern beaches and regular public transport is available.
